Hi,
I am writing to express my concern at the Village "No Complimentaries" system.
I have had in my posession for a couple of months, a "buy one get one free" voucher I got on the back of a supermarket receipt. The conditions of this are that it must be used on a Monday or Wednesday, and only applies to movies that aren't "no complimentries".
This evening I went to a movie with my wife, around 7pm. Of the nine movies that were showing tonight, all nine were no complimentaries. The only movie at this cinema that isn't on no complimentaries was Lemony Snicket - which is only showing in 2 daytime slots.
I am wondering what is the point of the no complimentaries system if all movies are no complimentaries. Surely it would be less hassle for your marketing team, and less frustrating for the consumer if you simply stopped giving away vouchers and free movies.
The cinema attendant tried to explain that this is an unusual situaton because all the movies are new, but this isn't the case. I have found that by the time a movie makes it off the no complimentaries list, it is either reduced to one or 2 slots per day, or I have already seen it and paid full price.
I would like Village to look at this issue, and accept that 9 out of 9 movies on no complimentaries is ridiculous. I would appreciate a real reply to this concern, please don't fob me off with "thank you for your feedback, we will forward it to our team" etc.
Regards,
Harvey Kane.
Dear Mr Kane
I fully understand your frustration and I would like to explain to you the " No Complimentary Policy" and why at times this situation can come about.
This policy is dictated by the Distributors who actually own the movies and to whom we pay film hire. The length of the No Complimentary restriction is usually based on the studios expectations and depending on this a 1 to 4 week restriction may be applied. The restriction of " No Complimentary after 5pm on Saturday" is a standard restriction on all movies at all times.
There are certain times of the year when all Distributors want to release their best product to take advantage of periods such as School Holidays, so there may seem to be an imbalance of " No Complimentary" movies in the market at one time, however every movie will come off the No Complimentary List.
I appreciate your comment with regards to when we run promotions and I can assure you our Marketing Dept, do try to work around these periods of time. Unfortunately in the case of the supermarket dockets we are a 3rd party participant and do not have the means of stopping the promotion for a short period of time.
Yours sincerely
